ASHLEY HOUSE STUD CONGRATULATE GALILEO
ON HIS FIRST SEASON AS CHAMPION SIRE

Our colt foal sold at Tattersall’s December 2008

From the Tattersall’s website -
The colt by GALILEO out of the MARK OF ESTEEM mare HONORINE entered a packed ring early in the evening and caught the interest of many including an online bidder as well as Paddy Twomey and Camas Park Stud’s Tim Hyde. The latter pair soon settled down to a head to head battle to secure the colt and as the price climbed skyward, it was Hyde who prevailed when bidding stopped at 180,000 guineas. Hyde indicated that the colt, who was consigned from Paul and Sara Thorman’s Trickledown Stud on behalf of Brian Hammond’s Ashley House Stud, would probably be re-offered next year at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. It has been a great year on the racecourse for GALILEO, the Derby winning son of SADLER’S WELLS and the Prix de l’arc de Triomphe winner URBAN SEA, who has been represented by the Group 1 winners NEW APPROACH, LUSH LASHES, RED ROCKS and SOLDIER OF FORTUNE, propelling him to his first British & Irish Champion Sire title.

 From the Racing Post website–
Galileo lights up a winter's evening The week's first offering by Galileo created excitement in the early evening. Offered by Trickledown Stud for breeder Brian Hammond's Axminster-based Ashley House Stud, the colt out of a half-sister to Hardwicke Stakes winner Indian Creek, had plenty of admirers. An online bidder made much of the early running but the final exchanges were fought out by Paddy Twomey of Hawthorn Villa Stud and veteran pinhooker Timmy Hyde, who had the final say at 180,000gns. "He was a grand horse and a good mover and with these times we live in there's a fair chance he'll be resold next year! It's likely that he'll come back here," said the Camas Park Stud owner. "His sire has been flying ever since he started, he gets every sorts of winner and really has taken over from the boss man - Sadler's Wells." Consignor Paul Thorman of Trickledown Stud was delighted with the sale. "I'm thrilled but he was a real nice horse by the best stallion there is at the moment - he ticked all the boxes. I'd haveto be pleased because this is a tough market, some are making less than you expect and others are making more but it's very difficult to judge what they are going to realise beforehand," said Thorman.
